⚖️ Long-Running Payroll Scam Ends in Prison Sentence in Kuwait 💰

Hello Readers,

We have an unusual and interesting piece of news from Kuwait’s legal system that highlights the serious consequences of public sector fraud.

A man has been sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of illegally collecting a salary for ten years without ever showing up for work!

🧑‍⚖️ The Court’s Ruling

Kuwait’s Court of Cassation (the final court of appeal) upheld a five-year prison sentence for the man, who was found to have unlawfully received a salary over the decade while his prolonged absence from work was known.

The financial penalty is severe:

  • Repayment: The defendant was ordered to repay the 104,000 Kuwaiti Dinars he illegally received.

  • Fine: He was also ordered to pay a fine double that amount.

  • Total Due: This brings the total amount he must return to 312,000 Kuwaiti Dinars (approximately $1,015,000 USD).

Additionally, the court ruled that the man must be dismissed from his job, according to the Arabic daily newspaper Al Qabas.

🛑 Evidence Overrides Previous Rulings

The Court of Cassation concluded that previous decisions acquitting the defendant were mistaken. The court found that the evidence clearly demonstrated the defendant’s long-term absence and the unlawful nature of his salary collection from the government.

This ruling sends a strong message about accountability and the serious consequences of abusing public funds!
