Health security is a top priority, and we have an update from the Sidama Regional State regarding recent health measures.

Ato Desta Ledamo, the Chief Administrator of the Sidama Region, has confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made within the region to prevent and control the spread of the Marburg Virus.

 

🏥 Essential Support and Response

 

This critical announcement comes as the Ministry of Health delivered vital medical supplies and five ambulances to the Sidama Region to aid in the fight against the virus.

During the handover ceremony, the Chief Administrator acknowledged the recent unfortunate loss of one life in Hawassa city due to the Marburg Virus. However, he provided reassurance:

  • Contact Tracing: Individuals who had contact with the deceased person are currently receiving medical follow-up at a dedicated isolation center established by the region.

  • Intense Preparation: Ato Desta Ledamo stated that extensive preparations are underway to suppress the spread of the disease within the region, and he praised the Ministry of Health’s efforts in prevention and control.

The Chief Administrator extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Health for their continuous support.

Crucially, he made a direct appeal to the community:

📢 We must work together! The people of the region are urged to refrain from contact to help curb the spread of the disease. Furthermore, the public is asked to report any suspected cases so that timely medical treatment can be provided.
